As a school we have chosen to provide our government recommended 3 hours of learning through Purple Mash. On this platform class teachers will be sending out daily work for the children to complete. It is an expectation that all children log on every day and try to keep to a learning routine similar to the one they would have in school. Class teachers will also be taking into consideration the need for well-being and providing students with activities to cope with their own thoughts and feelings. Maths, English and Spelling / Phonics resources will be accompanied by a video to aid parents with delivering learning at home.

All children will receive:

  • Daily maths activities
  • Daily English activities
  • 3x per week spelling
  • 1x topic activity
  • 1x science activity
  • 1 x physical activity
  • 1 x well-being activity
  • 3x reading session
  • 1 x music activity

All children now have access to myON which is an online library where children can read lots of books, including non-fiction books.  You can also listen to the book being read aloud and follow the words by clicking the speaker icon.  Every pupil in Year 3 and 4 needs to read at least 2 books a week on myON to continue to practise their reading skills.  When they have finished reading a book on myON, the can then click the button to take a quiz on Accelerated reader.

Everyone in Year 3 and 4 has a log in for Accelerated reader which is the same as their log in for myON.  When children have read a book, they can log on and take a quiz to check their understanding.  Every pupil in Year 3 and 4 needs to take at least one quiz a week.

All children have a log in for TT Rockstars to practise their times tables.  Pupils in Y3 and Y4 can do the sound check to see how many out of 25 they can get right.

Topic resources

Year 3

This half term our topic is ‘Violent Earth’ which includes learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. Each week, year 3 are given a task linking to this topic on Purple Mash. If you would like to learn more facts about volcanoes and earthquakes to help you with your weekly topic 2dos, you can look on these websites: Read the information and watch the video to find out facts. Find out some interesting facts about earthquakes. Watch the video and read the information to find out earthquakes occur. Go through each of these lessons to learn lots of information about volcanoes and earthquakes.

Next half term we will be learning about the Mayans in history. Can you do some research about this topic by following these links? If you find out some interesting facts, why not share all of your facts in an eye-catching poster or an informative leaflet? Click on the different pictures to find out a range of facts about the Mayans. Watch these videos to discover lots of interesting facts. Watch this YouTube video and write down any facts you hear.

Year 4

Until Easter, our topic is ‘The Roman Empire Strikes Back.’  You can do some learning at home by using these resources to help you.  You could create a fact file, a poster or a mind map using the information you have learned.  Watch these lessons to learn about Roman Britain.  Find out how the Roman’s invaded Britain  Meet  a Roman Soldier Find out how the Romans changed Britain?



PE and Mindfulness activities

Each week, year 3 and 4 children will receive a YouTube link in their Purple Mash email to a video which will be their PE lesson for that week. This video is sometimes a Joe Wicks workout to keep everyone fit and healthy or a video from the Association for PE which focuses on key skills in PE such as agility, balance and coordination. As well as keeping active and thinking about our physical wellbeing, we also need to remember to look after our mental wellbeing. To do this we can complete some mindfulness activities such as colouring, listening to music, exercising, meditating or reading a book. Here are some links to some websites with these types of activities: - Enhance your art skills by following some of these videos. - Print some of these pictures and take your time when colouring them - Log onto your YUMU account to listen to music and join in with some singing. – Join in with some meditation or yoga.
